RS Electrical was appointed by Derbyshire County Council to deliver a full electrical rewire alongside the design and installation of a new photovoltaic system at Brigg Infant School.
With the entire project programmed into the six-week summer holiday, the works needed to be carefully planned and delivered so the school was fully operational and ready for pupils returning in September.
Acting as Principal Contractor, RS Electrical managed the complete delivery of the project, including site management, health and safety, electrical design, installation, testing and commissioning.
- Replacement of the main switchgear and rationalisation of several single-phase distribution boards into a new TP+N arrangement
- Full rewire of classrooms, circulation areas, toilets and the main hall, including new LED lighting, small power and containment
- Additional submains installed to serve remote blocks and improve the electrical infrastructure across the site
- Design and installation of a roof-mounted PV system integrated into the school's electrical installation, providing on-site renewable generation
Delivering a full rewire within a fixed six-week programme
Working within an older school building meant dealing with restricted voids, existing cable routes and areas where finishes needed to be carefully protected. Our team planned routes and sequencing around these constraints while maintaining progress against the fixed summer programme.
Delivery & outcome
The project was completed within the six-week summer holiday programme, allowing the school to reopen as planned for the new academic year.
All electrical systems were tested, commissioned and handed over with the required documentation, leaving the school with a significantly modernised electrical installation, upgraded lighting and new renewable generation.
RS Electrical also made a financial donation to the school following completion of the project. The contribution was used towards creating a beach-themed play area with new play sand for pupils, providing something directly back to the school community.
