Overview

RS Electrical was appointed by Elevate FM to deliver the electrical infrastructure for a new packing bench installation at Moonpig's Tamworth distribution facility.

The works formed part of a wider warehouse upgrade and required the installation of new electrical distribution, power, lighting and data infrastructure to serve the new packing areas.

With the facility remaining operational throughout the project, careful planning and coordination were essential. Our team managed the electrical design and installation while working around the existing warehouse operation and coordinating with the other parties involved in the upgrade.

Scope of works
  • Design and installation of a new LV distribution system, with a new sub-main supplying an 8-way Schneider Acti9 distribution board
  • Circuit routes installed using a combination of existing and new cable basket systems, in accordance with the CAD-developed layout
  • Galvanised trunking with cable basket above, replicating the existing installation across the mezzanine and ground-floor areas
  • A dedicated 16A single-phase commando socket to each packing bench, supplied from RCBO-protected radial circuits
  • Task lighting above the packing benches on Unistrut support systems, positioned to reduce shadowing, with PIR controls to prevent unnecessary operation
  • CAT6 LSF data cabling, with two high-level data outlets per bench connected to three 48-way patch panels within the existing server rack

Working around live operations

Working within a live distribution facility

One of the main considerations was delivering the installation within an operational warehouse.

The scale and position of the new infrastructure required careful sequencing of containment, cabling and final connections while allowing Moonpig's existing operation to continue around the works.

Our site team coordinated activities with Elevate FM, Moonpig and the other contractors working within the facility, supported by daily briefings, site supervision and regular health and safety checks.

The result

Delivery & outcome

The electrical installation was completed within programme and provided the infrastructure required for Moonpig's new packing bench operation.

The completed installation brings together LV distribution, containment, dedicated power, task lighting and data infrastructure across the new working areas, with the systems coordinated around the existing warehouse environment.
