Overview

RS Electrical delivered a full LED lighting upgrade across a large number of teaching, office, and communal areas within Stoke Park School. The works were planned to take place entirely during the six-week summer holiday to avoid disruption and ensure a safe, controlled working environment. A detailed programme of works was provided in advance, with flexibility built in should the school require access to any areas during the project.

The upgrade included the removal of the existing lighting, excluding the linear fittings which were retained. All lighting controls and switches were left in place, with PIRs assumed to be in full working order. A specialist Ex-Or commissioner attended on the final working day to complete full commissioning of the system.

Scope of works
  • Installation spanning reception areas, classrooms, science labs, circulation zones, stairwells, external elevations and plant rooms
  • New LED panels and LED lamps across teaching, office and communal areas
  • Emergency bulkheads and emergency fittings to strengthen emergency lighting compliance
  • Low bay conversions and vapour proof luminaires in circulation, external and plant areas
  • Removal of existing lighting, with linear fittings retained where suitable
  • Existing lighting controls and switches retained, with PIRs assumed to be in full working order
  • Full system commissioning carried out by a specialist Ex-Or commissioner on the final day

Planning and coordination

Health and safety remained central throughout the project. A dedicated Health & Safety file was set up on-site, containing RAMS, sign-in sheets, and all required permits. RAMS were submitted to the school two weeks before the start date for review and approval. In line with our internal procedures, the project also underwent a spot-check audit, with the findings made available to the school to support transparency and continuous improvement.

Waste disposal was managed in accordance with WEEE regulations. We worked to recycle components wherever possible and established a secure compound next to the sixth form centre for skip access and waste management.

The result

Delivery and outcome

The school now benefits from a modern, efficient LED lighting system that delivers improved light quality, reduced energy consumption, and long-term maintenance savings. Emergency lighting compliance has been strengthened across the building, and teaching and support spaces have been upgraded with bright, uniform illumination.

By completing the entire project within the summer break and maintaining strict control over health and safety, RS Electrical ensured a seamless delivery with no disruption to staff or students. The final commissioning confirmed that all systems were operating correctly, leaving the school with a reliable and fully upgraded lighting installation.
